Practice shape recognition and fine motor coordination with this printable PDF set of 18 Geoboard Shapes Cards, designed for children ages 3 to 6 working with a standard 5x5 geoboard. Each 5" x 5" card shows a shape formed by rubber band lines on a dot grid — children recreate the shape on their own geoboard, building spatial reasoning and hand strength alongside early geometry concepts.

📦 What's Included

  • 18 shape task cards — triangle, rectangle, small square, large square, octagon, right triangle, hexagon, pentagon, cross, house, heart, trapezoid, six-pointed star, boat, arrow/zigzag, diamond, and more
  • Blank geoboard cards — for child-led shape creation
  • Two print versions — black border and blue border, both included in the same PDF
  • PDF format — 24 pages, US Letter and A4 compatible, instant download

💡 Learning Benefits

  • Strengthens fine motor control through precise rubber band placement
  • Builds shape recognition and early geometry vocabulary
  • Supports spatial awareness and visual discrimination
  • Encourages independent, self-correcting tray work

🎯 How to Use

  • Print and cut cards, then laminate for extended shelf life
  • Place a small stack in a tray alongside the child's geoboard and rubber bands
  • The child selects a card and recreates the shape — the card itself acts as the control of error
  • Use laminated blank cards with a dry-erase marker for a drawing or tracing extension
  • Offer cards as a matching game by presenting two copies — one as a model, one to match
  • Introduce shape names during or after work for vocabulary building

🎓 Teaching Tip

Introduce simpler shapes first — square, rectangle, triangle — before moving to hexagons and more complex figures. The blank cards are a wonderful next step: once children can reproduce the shapes shown, invite them to create their own designs, name them, and describe what they notice. This moves the work from imitation into genuine geometric exploration.
